Today, it rained all day in our tiny village of Argelliers, so we staying in our beautiful apartment and read. It was lovely.
But, as evening rolled around, the problem with a very small village without a restaurant became clear; dinner became a challenge. A tapas place in a neighboring village that had been recommended was fully booked, and it was also the only restaurant in that tiny village. So we drove on, hoping for a bit of luck as night fell.
We found a picturesque village inside a gorge complete with white water, a waterfall, and cliffs: Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert.
We found a tiny place—O’Bistrot—where the back dining room was a cave—a real cave that the restaurant backed into. We had a lovely dinner.
Driving back, big fat bullfrogs blocked the road. They walked slowly and we had to drive around them in the dark and the rain. We were determined not to be the cause of any roadkill.
Our hosts said that in addition to deer, there are boars, ferrets, and rabbits. They also mentioned that the French eat all kinds of protein, including bullfrogs.
