I bought the best meringue I found for the entire trip here, today!
The secret is to not overcook it; meringue has a tendency to turn into packing material. This one was still gooey on the inside. Perfect! So it’s worth looking until the perfect one presents itself. I will have it for breakfast tomorrow. Sadly, we never found any croque madame during our entire stay here nor croque monsieur for that matter.
I did have a bit of a misadventure. When we got home last night, I kept trying to wash off a black spot under my left eye with soap and water. It didn’t come off. I have a touch of a black eye, and although my eye never left my face and stayed with me the whole day, I have no idea how I managed to get a bruise there.
So this is our last day and my last vacation letter. The summer has finally arrived to Southern France, and we want to shelter in the fogs of home.
Today, Christopher and I returned the car and went to farmers’ market to get some staples for our dinner picnic tonight.
We had lunch with Theodora and Theodoros, followed by a heated discussion about blockchain. We argued in favor while Theodora believes the cryptography part is very important, but the “chain” part has few real applications and is being over-hyped; she has a point. Then, they left to catch a flight to Madrid, and we went to a botanical garden.
We sat and had nice drinks, both hot and cold, in a beautiful shady café. And then we walked home in perfect weather.
And ate our last French stay-at-home picnic.
Love from France!
