This morning, we said goodbye to our amazing house in Montrozier. The boys begged us to just cancel the remainder of our bookings and spend the rest of our vacation at that home. Although rather luxurious, it was time to move on.
We traveled a little over an hour from Montrozier and arrived at Ambeyrac, which is quite rural and isolated. There’s a woman who opens a little storefront up the street every once in a while, and we understand that the local butcher opens only on Thursday mornings, but that’s it for groceries in a 15 kilometer radius.
We are staying in a converted barn adjacent to a nice old farmhouse, surrounded by amazing gardens.
A British couple bought the property, which includes the main house and the gardens, and restored it.
The house even has a swimming pool, but the weather is not cooperating. We are back to wearing multiple sweaters and negotiating the heat with our hosts. The only way we could get into that water is with a wetsuit.
After Montrozier’s rambling house, the barn is a bit cramped, although functional. The hosts seem like very nice people. They live in the main house and Marion, who’s a professional chef, will cook us dinner tomorrow for Mother’s Day! For some reason, Mother’s Day in France is celebrated a week later than it is in the United States.
Before it started to rain this afternoon, Nicholas, Christopher, and I did get to walk about and explore the countryside. Timothy had better things to do that involved sitting with his computer back at the house.
There are some interesting insects here. These are like silk worms; lots and lots of caterpillars live inside the silk.
There are still some challenges. As city folk, we’re just not used to the diversity of rural life. Christopher did set the centipede free outside after a successful capture in a Kleenex. My vote was to flush it down the toilet.
Love from the middle of nowhere France!
